Sales Presentations
I’ve been trained by the experts at Duarte in California and collaborated with leaders across many different divisions at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and Curriculum Associates to conceptualize, write, and market test many 45-minute sales presentations. Below are some video excerpts.
This opening was a reminder/thank you to California teachers for the role they play in educating tomorrow’s world changers. I also wrote the script for the opening video.
The script for these two slides circles back to the opening above and provides a very powerful example of how one teacher can make such an enormous difference.
My very first project at Curriculum Associates was to create a unified Grades K–5 sales presentation that would combine a 3–5 reading comprehension program with its new and very different K–2 foundational skills counterpart. I wrote the entire deck around “The Art and Science of Reading”—how teaching is “an exquisite art, truly unlike anything else on this earth,” and how “getting students to discover their own magic and grow and read on grade level requires both the art . . . and science of reading.” This also became the campaign messaging.
This story mirrored the approach of this updated edition of Math Expressions by looking deeper into what a number really is. Math Expressions is a very successful program, a point that is clearly made in the introduction to draw the audience into the body of the presentation.
“Notice & Note” was a major differentiator for this English language arts program. It’s a complicated idea that needed to be explained clearly and quickly.
I drew from the three-word Journeys tagline to create an emotional, forward-looking opening for this English language arts presentation. Journeys is also backed by solid efficacy studies—a point I used to set up the rest of the presentation.
